THE TORAH IS NOW IN MUNICH AT CONGREGATION BETH SHALOM (as of November 14, 2004.) Fred Fischer, Head of Yachad Germany and member of our congregation. Rabbi Walter Rothschild Adrian Michael Schell, Board member of BS ![]() ![]() ![]() Yesterday was a memorable day at Beth Shalom. Firstly, we celebrated the introduction of the "Oettinger- Landmann Torah" at Beth Shalom. I only wanted to thank you once again for all you have done to make this possible and to report to you that this was a joyous occasion for the whole community. I was honored to receive the 7th aliyah of "Aufruf" to the Torah and was indeed impressed by the crisp clear writing and the beauty of the scroll. Our Rabbi, Walter Rothschild, gave a talk about the importance of having a "new" Torah and how this should be seen as an opportunity to renew learning in the community. Unfortunately no pictures were taken but it was a memorable sevice. The widow and daughter of Shalom Ben-Chorin, the writer and philosopher, who live in Jerusalem also by chance attended the service because a day earlier a Munich street was named after Ben-Chorin. And in the evening, after Shabbat was over, an couple aged 80+ (he being a survivor of Auschwitz) decided that after forty years of being together, it was time for a chupah. It was all in all a lot of history and a lot of good things coming together on one single day. I hope you have the opportunity to come visit us on Shavuot. I would be very pleased to meet you personally. Kind regards, |
